The Crone's Corner

The Geese they are a-Flying

I hear the cackling of geese. I look to the sky and find a group of birds in a migratory formation. They are 'on the wing', flying south.

The early morning air feels brisk to my face and hands.

I hear the cackling of geese. I look to the sky and find a group of birds in a migratory formation. They are 'on the wing', flying south.

They seem to have an innate knowing how to be together that supports success of their mission. One tires and falls back while another takes it place. It keeps the flock moving toward their winter grounds.

I'm left to wonder what the noisy cackling is all about? Is it their flight song encouraging each other to keep going over the many journey miles? Hundreds of miles, sometimes thousands of miles they fly together. It never sounds to my ear like a continuous squabbling or arguing over position in the formation line. Nor does it seem to be a whining about being tired and hungry, asking the group leader for second breakfast stopover.

In this moment of dawn I am their flight migratory witness. To see the geese move across the sky and hear their song of flight brings a gentle delight to my soul. It's a familiar Autumn memory. They have been faithfully doing their group flight migration for eons, witnessed or not. For me these moments of soul delight are enough. I can return to who I am, where I am and the path of my own journey today.

As I witness the Autumn geese who know not that I am watching their flight, I stop and wonder if there is some unbeknowst witness to my journey? I say a prayer that if so may it bring delight to them. May all that I do and say today be from Love. And may that Love sound and ring like a song of peace and goodness to the Heavens. A song that angels hear and join their voices into resounding worshipful praise to God. A song that surrounds and fills the Holy with the sense of Glory and Beauty. A song that brings a smile to the face of God.

Have you seen God smile?
